It’s this time of year—when sweater weather is in full effect—that we find ourselves turning into enthusiastic moviegoers, spending the weekends catching the latest flicks and filling up on popcorn. Only this time around, it’s not so much what is on our must-watch list, but rather, who. While films like La La Land and Jackie are already receiving Oscar buzz, we’re focusing our predictions elsewhere: on Hollywood’s next big stars. As such, we present you with our latest Girl on the Rise portfolio, presented by ALDO.

It’s not every day Tom Ford gives you the ultimate compliment, but for 19-year-old Ellie Bamber, it happened upon meeting the designer/director for the very first time. “I had a meeting with him, and when I was leaving he said to me, I can tell you have great personal style,” the British beauty and Chanel ambassador recalled. “That was just sort of a moment for me.” But it’s clear Ford saw more in Bamber than simply her keen eye for fashion: The girl has quite the acting chops as well. Before being cast in Ford’s second film, Nocturnal Animals, Bamber made her big-screen debut earlier this year as the frivolous Lydia Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. And with two more projects recently added to her résumé—next year’s Extracurricular Activities and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms in 2018—the bubbly teen shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Ellie Bamber: the future of british cinema

From high school to Hollywood; Ellie Bamber is the 19-year-old actress and Chanel ambassador about to hit the big time with her starring role in Tom Ford’s noir thriller Nocturnal Animals.

Lying on a sun lounger in the south of France, wearing an emerald green bikini and Chanel shades, Ellie Bamber is every inch the star. The 19-year-old British actress is in the Côte d’Azur for the Cannes Film Festival as a guest of Chanel, who recently appointed her with the hugely coveted title of brand ambassador. With her porcelain skin, delicate features and long auburn hair, Ellie is made for film. She has the beauty and poise of a young Julianne Moore or Nicole Kidman, and a brilliantly bonkers personality that’s as fiery as her hair. For now however, the young Brit is enjoying a rare moment of quiet, before Tom Ford’s highly anticipated sophomore effort, Nocturnal Animals, hits the cinemas and Ellie’s star is born.

ELLIE BAMBER
AGE:   19
HOMETOWN: Crowthorne, England

Ellie captured Hollywood’s attention with her breakout role as Lydia Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Her next big gig is equally creepy: In the inimitable fashion designer turned writer and director Tom Ford’s latest movie, the dark thriller Nocturnal Animals, she plays a Texas teenager whose parents are portrayed by Isla Fisher and Jake Gyllenhaal. “Working with Tom was an incredible experience,” Ellie says. “He has this extraordinary vision and eye for detail — everything he creates is very precise. I like to think of myself as a sponge on set, constantly learning and soaking up advice.”

When Ellie’s not in front of the camera, she can often be found in the kitchen. “I love to cook. Sometimes I’ll just hang out with my friends and make them katsu curry!” she says. In fact, Ellie will go to great lengths for the perfect food — for better or worse: “I once scaled a cliff to buy a strawberry and chocolate milk shake, only to find out the place had stopped making them.” —H.H.
